Ophelia - Rhapsody in Red

During mid October 2017 the UK experienced a strange meteorological phenomena which was called 'Ophelia'. Ophelia was in fact a hurricane bringing dust from the Sahara desert resulting in the sun turning red and the sky becoming a deep orange. I was on my allotment at the time of witnessing this storm and managed to take some photographs and make some colour notations on the back of seed packets as well as a couple of sketches. Later I returned to my studio and began to work on what I had seen on canvas. I managed to finish the painting two days ago which I entitled 'Ophelia - Rhapsody in Red'. The reason the painting took so long was because I struggled to get the colours and effect I wanted In opaque paint so I had to build up the colours with several washes, which is how I normally work, and this resulted in many days or weeks of drying time between washes or glazes. I think the final result is an accurate depiction of what I saw allbeit with some romantic license.
